The challenge

This company's clients controlled the screens in their venues by typing commands into a terminal, in an old DOS-style command line. Every change needed someone with technical knowledge, took time and invited mistakes, even in the middle of an event. The company wanted to retire this legacy process and let anyone on the venue team control the screens.

What we did

Understanding the users

We started by learning what on-site teams need to do during an event, then turned each terminal command into a simple visual action. We prototyped and tested the screens in Sketch before building. The platform was built in React and connected to a PHP API, so it opens in any browser, on desktop or mobile.

What the platform does

  • A map with multiple floor plans, showing what each screen is playing in real time.
  • An on-screen remote control, with IPTV channel names and logos.
  • Action scheduling for one screen or many.
  • A responsive mobile version with dark mode.
On-screen remote control, with a help tip about volume.
On-screen remote control, with a help tip about volume.

The results

  • The command line was replaced by a visual interface in the browser.
  • Controlling screens no longer requires technical knowledge.
  • The platform was presented live to clients at a football stadium in the UK.

What this can do for you

If your business still depends on old tools only one or two people know how to use, a simple web interface lets anyone on the team work with them. You don't need an in-house engineering team for that.
